Heliski in Abkhazia, Russia
One day heliski trip to Abkhazia during the Sochi stay*
Abkhazia in the Caucasus mountains is probably on of the most exotic and best places for heliskiing. It’s a very large area, which offers a very diverse terrain, both challenging and exciting for any freerider. Abkhazia gets a lot of snow dumps due to the large amounts of rainfall which are pulled in from the Black Sea. Here you’ll find it all – everything from huge endless expanses to challenging forest skiing and deep couloirs. If you ask Russia, Abkhazia is an independent country, and if you ask Georgia and most of the world, it’s part of Georgia. If you ask Eastern Snow, Abkhazia is an awesome freeride area!
The heliport is localized in Abkhazia, about 15 minutes of driving from the Russian border. The transport from Krasna Polyana (Sochi) is about 1 hour. From Sochi airport, it takes about half an hour. On this 1 day trip we’ll be staying at the Abaata Hotel in Abkhazia the evening before we go heliskiing. By doing it this way, we’ll be ready to fly early in the morning, and beat the clouds coming in the afternoon. The hotel has a heated pool, beach and a restaurant with european and locally inspired cuisine.
